From Customer Service to Yardi® Specialist: Joe's Inspiring Career Path

This month, we’re to feature Joe Shamburg, a Consultant & Client Support Specialist who joined us in October 2023. Joe’s career path is a testament to his dedication, curiosity, and drive for excellence. We caught up with him to dive into his journey and to discover what truly fuels his passion.

Can you tell us a bit about how you started your career journey?

I started my career in customer service, which laid a strong foundation for my problem-solving skills and customer-centric approach. In 2018, I took a leap into the real estate world, spending almost six years in various property management roles, both onsite and at corporate offices. This experience gave me a deep understanding of the day-to-day operations and challenges of property management. It was during this period that I began my Yardi journey, gaining hands-on experience in Yardi residential modules.

What motivated you to shift from on-site property management to focusing on Yardi software support, and then to consulting?

I’ve always been passionate about technology and solving problems. When I started working with Yardi software, I was impressed with how technology could streamline and revolutionize property management processes. Seeing this drove me to deepen my knowledge and Yardi expertise.  Eventually, I discovered that, with my skill base, I could  transition into a consulting role where I could help many others leverage this technology effectively.

What did you do before joining BC Solutions?

Before joining BC Solutions, I worked inside a couple of different property management companies. I gained significant experience in various aspects of property management and Yardi support. I worked in multiple roles that involved troubleshooting software issues, guiding users through complex processes, and ensuring seamless integration of software solutions in property management operations. My roles equipped me with a solid foundation in both property management and software support, paving the way for my current role at BC Solutions.

What do you enjoy most about your role at BC Solutions?

I enjoy the gratification I get from  solving complex problems and helping clients make the most out of Yardi. Consulting lets me blend all my experiences and apply them to the unique challenges and needs of each client. It's incredibly satisfying to see our clients overcome obstacles and reach their goals with the solutions we provide. Plus, collaborating with BC Solutions’ diverse and talented team is motivating and a great learning opportunity at the same time!.

Can you share a bit about what inspires you in your role?

I find inspiration in the process of tackling complex issues and finding innovative solutions for our clients. It’s rewarding to help clients maximize their use of Yardi and witness the positive impact it has on their operations. My passion for continuous learning and growth keeps me motivated every day. Additionally, it’s rewarding for me when potential clients share their goals, objectives, or current pain points with me and trust me to help them find a solution. I really enjoy helping people. In my opinion, Property Management is a tough industry, and I like being able to support fellow industry professionals.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

Being from Colorado, I love spending time outdoors, whether hiking, camping, skiing, attending sporting events and concerts, or spending my springs and summers in my garden. I enjoy spending quality time with my family and engaging in DIY projects. 

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting out in a career similar to yours?

My advice would be to stay curious and never stop learning. The field of technology and software support is always evolving, so it’s important to keep expanding your knowledge and skills. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and don’t be afraid to seek out new experiences and perspectives.
